TRAINER TIP OF THE MONTH – HYDRATION
We all know drinking water is good for us but through the summer months it can be easier to become dehydrated especially in the hot temperatures of the Mojave Desert. Symptoms of dehydration include:
- dry skin
- fatigue and weakness
- increased body temperature
- muscle cramping
- darker-colored urine
the Institute of Medicine (IOM), they recommend for Men a total of 13 cups (about 3 liters) of fluid each day. For women, they suggest 9 cups (a little over 2 liters) of fluid. Remember if you exercise you may want to increase your intake.
If you are having a hard time meeting your water intake here are a few tips:
- infuse your water with sliced lemons, cucumbers and or fruit
- Invest in a large insulated container or large water jug that will hold your daily intake requirement
- write motivational phrases on your water container and a timeline to remind yourself to stay on track all day
- try to limit caffeine intake and drink a cup of water before your coffee every morning.
Stay hydrated and healthy friends!
