Anyone who’s been in a gym before has felt muscle soreness to some degree. Sometimes the soreness is so bad that we’ll do almost anything to get rid of it! Even worse, sometimes even prevents us from working out for days or even weeks. Hence, here are 3 natural ways to prevent muscle soreness.
One of the easiest of the 3 natural ways to prevent muscle soreness is to simply drink more water. Yes, we hear this all the time, and they do say that water stuff is good for you, but you may not have realized it can help you with your muscle recovery. Soreness is from tiny bits of damage to the proteins in your muscles after they’re challenged. Soreness can also come from a high buildup of acid in your cells after a high intensity workout. Water allows the tiny molecules in your muscle cells to move more freely. This helps flush out the acidic particles AND transporting the enzymes needed for repair much more easily!
Another great natural way to prevent muscle soreness is to simply stretch thoroughly after your workout. Once again, we find a concept we’ve been told over and over again, but there’s more to stretching than most people know. For instance, when you pull on a muscle, it’s natural response is to pull back to prevent from being torn. This means when you start stretching, your muscle naturally fights you and stays tight. Moreover, a muscle won’t start to truly loosen up until after about 20 seconds. Furthermore, some athletes, like gymnasts, will stretch for up to 60 seconds per stretch! So try stretching your muscles for over 40 seconds the next time you finish a workout, you’ll feel a HUGE difference! Our last tip is even simpler than the first 2, and that’s, to simply take it easier! There’s times we’re not feeling it and take it too easy, and other times we’re in the zone and want to push hard! There’s nothing wrong with either, taking it slow on sluggish days prevents injuries and keeps your consistency. Likewise, you make the greatest gains and get results by pushing hard! The trick with pushing hard is to make sure you’re body is ready to handle it! Think of your muscles like a house, you can’t make them stand up to a storm until the foundation is laid solid! So take your time and work up your foundation before going into beast mode!
